Introduction

Hello! This website is in development (as am I). I practice learning in public here, and consider it a digital garden full of ideas at different stages of growth.
If you want to say hi or follow what I'm up to, you can find me on Bluesky: @amberartist.bsky.social
Who is Amber?
Hi! I’m Amber (she/her), an artist and educator from Snuneymuxw Territory (Nanaimo), British Columbia, Canada. I hold an MFA in Art from the University of Lethbridge, and I’m currently finishing my Master of Education in Educational Leadership, which I’ll complete in spring 2025. Back in 2018–19, while working at Nanaimo Art Gallery, I had the opportunity to participate in a mentorship program at arc.hive under Connie Michele Morey, and both of these experiences influenced my approach to art and education.
I’ve taught as a sessional instructor at the University of Victoria, Vancouver Island University, and North Island College, offering courses in studio art, art history, and video game studies. In 2024, I was honoured to receive the Faculty of Fine Arts Award for Innovative Course Design from UVic for my course Representing Women in Video Games.
I’m also the founder of Sad Girl Review, an independent art and literature publication. My practice and research emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to artmaking and arts-based pedagogy. My work tends to span academic, artistic, and community-focused initiatives.
