This zine is a collaborative project by Code Switching, the teen art collective at Nanaimo Art Gallery. These youth were inspired by Surrealist writing and drawing exercises, as well as Gaston Bachelard’s book, The Poetics of Space, and the Nanaimo Art Gallery’s year-long inquiry question: how can we speak differently? They employed a free associative process aimed to engage the subconscious, and because of this their references are far reaching: conversations with friends, novels from English Lit class, dreams and nightmares, and Rorschach tests. The outcome is a compilation of imaginative, absurd images and text meant to intrigue and provoke.
